Tension over killing of 25 Ondo travelers in Plateau, Akeredolu appeals for calm

There appears to be rising tension in Ondo State over the killing of 25 travelers in Plateau State on Saturday morning who were on their way back to Ondo after religious activities in Bauchi, Bauchi State. The travelers were ambushed by gunmen who killed 25 in Plateau State.

It was gathered that Ondo residents in their conjectures, were perceiving the attack as religion extremism and considering reprisal attack and killing of the perceived religion sect resident in the state.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State timely intervened to douse the tension. The governor appealed to residents of the state not to take laws into their hands over an attack on the Ondo indigenes Saturday morning and the killing of 25 travelers in Rukuba Village, Plateau State.

Governor Akeredolu, in a statement, assured the people that the situation is under control, noting that the state government is liaising with other authorities to bring the perpetrators to book.

The governor, therefore, enjoined the people of the state to refrain from any hasty interpretation of the attack, adding that Ondo indigenes resident in Plateau State are not targets of any religion or ethnic crisis.

Beside the 25 persons that were confirmed killed in the ambush, 14 others were identified injured in the attack at Rukuba road, Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State on Saturday morning.

The travelers were ambushed on their way from Bauchi through Jos to Ikare, Ondo State.
