Tension has continued to rise in Zamfara State following the directives by the State House of Assembly to the Chief Judge of the state to appoint a panel of investigation for the impeachment of Deputy Governor Mahdi Aliyu Gusau.
The Zamfara State House of Assembly had raised allegations of gross misconduct against Deputy Governor Mahdi Aliyu Gusau, insisting on impeachment of the deputy governor who had stayed back in the People Democratic Party (PDP) after Governor Bello Matawalle had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It was gathered that 18 of the 22 members of the House of Assembly voted in support of the motion to impeach the deputy governor.
The PDP Lawmaker, representing Zurmi East Salihu Usman constituency, was said to be absent at the House plenary.
The House at Plenary unanimously declared that the Deputy Governor breaching Sections 190 and 193 (1), (2) (a)(b)(c) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and therefore, should be impeached.
The House had earlier served all members with Notice of Impeachment of the Deputy Governor, claiming that the deputy governor abuse of his office, and as such breached sections 190 and 193 (1), (2) (a)(b)(c) of the Constitution.
