Three traffic robbers land in Police net

Robbers operating at traffic congestion spots in Lagos have landed in police net after being arrested in certain locations. The Police detachment attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, disclosed the arrest of three traffic robbers at Ikeja City Mall, and three other robbers arrested on the Badagry Road axis with the assistance of members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mile 2.

It was narrated that four of the robbers, identified as Segun Peters (22), Kabiru Odeh (25), Nurudeen Suraj (22), and Dennis Ikuvbogie (24) were arrested at Mile 2 during robbery operations on road users in traffic.

The police also arrested other robbers who include Anifowoshe Kolawole (20), Patrick Ameke (21), and John Britto (27) at the Ikeja City Mall environs, working on reports of their criminal activities in that axis.

Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, said that on a tip-off on the activities of traffic robbers in Mile 2, plain clothed police officers were deployed to the zone to monitor and arrest the suspects.

The Commander said that one of the robbers, Nurudeen Suraj, was arrested one week ago and detained at Agboju Police Station. CSP Egbeyemi disclosed that Suraj was released from prison two months ago. He said that others arrested in Ikeja were selectively picked up after a petition by the management of Ikeja City Mall on reported incidences of traffic robbery in the vicinity.

The police narrated that the suspects were under surveillance, noting that on most occasions, they pretend to be beggars and nose mask sellers before they were arrested. The police said that they disguise to rob motorists and pedestrians visiting the complex.

The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, commended the cooperation of the civilian in providing intelligence to the police, including those who supported the police to arrest the robbers.
