President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), replacing Kayode Egbetokun in a major leadership shake-up within the Nigeria Police Force.
Sources familiar with the development confirmed on Tuesday that Disu’s appointment has been finalised, with an official announcement from the Presidency expected imminently.
“AIG Tunji Disu is the new IGP. Confirmed,” a senior source disclosed, adding that the information had received double confirmation from authoritative quarters.
Egbetokun, who had been serving as Inspector-General of Police, has now been relieved of his duties, paving the way for Disu to assume command of the nation’s top law enforcement agency.

The transition marks a significant moment for the Nigeria Police Force, coming amid ongoing conversations around institutional reforms, internal discipline, and public confidence in policing across the country.
Observers say the appointment signals a fresh phase in the leadership of the force, with expectations that the new IGP will consolidate ongoing reforms and address operational challenges.
Further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the change in leadership, as well as the effective date of Disu’s assumption of office, are expected to be communicated by the Presidency in due course.
