President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the full and immediate payment of all allowances and match bonuses due to the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s national women’s football team.

The announcement, made by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, on Thursday in Abuja, comes just ahead of the Super Falcons’ highly anticipated final match against Morocco in the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on July 26.

Dikko confirmed that all entitlements for the team, spanning up to and including the WAFCON final, have been disbursed for immediate payment to players, coaches, and officials.

He characterized the gesture as “policy in motion” and a clear demonstration of a renewed commitment to Nigerian athletes under President Tinubu’s leadership.

Assuring a departure from past payment controversies, Dikko stated that timely payments, “without drama or delays,” would now be the standard practice going forward.

The new policy extends beyond football. Dikko noted that Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, who are set to begin their 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket campaign in Côte d’Ivoire, will also benefit from improved allowances and bonuses.

“This is the kind of sports administration we are building, one rooted in dignity, trust, and shared prosperity. Future generations would appreciate President Tinubu’s reforms in the sports sector,” Dikko concluded, emphasizing the administration’s broader vision for sports in Nigeria.
