President Bola Tinubu has awarded Bill Gates the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR), one of Nigeria’s highest recognitions.

The Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist received the award for his impactful work in health, education and poverty reduction, particularly in Nigeria and across Africa.

The honour was conferred during Gates’ recent visit to Nigeria, where he met with President Tinubu and other officials to discuss primary healthcare reforms.

Gates also participated in the Goalkeepers Nigeria event and held talks with local scientists and stakeholders on scaling AI-powered health solutions.

Describing his involvement in Africa as both a “moral responsibility and a strategic investment,” Gates reaffirmed his commitment to the continent.

Through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, he has already committed $100 billion to global health and development, with plans to invest another $200 billion in Africa over the coming decades, depending on global economic conditions.
