Lagos State House of Assembly has called on the Governor of the State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode to direct the Vehicle Inspectorate office VIS through the Ministry of Transportation to inspect and regulate the activities of heavy duty vehicles in the State as stipulated by the law.
The lawmakers observe the flagrant disregard for the law guiding the movement of the vehicles which confine their movement to a specific period of the day.
According to the lawmakers, the inherent dangers posed by these vehicles to human lives and properties in the State, necessitate the need for relevant government agencies in the transport ministry to ensure that existing law guiding their operation are complied with.
This motion was raised by Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu representing Amuwo Odofin I after he explained to the House the unfortunate incident where a trailer reversed due to the faulty condition of the trailer and ended up causing a fire accident that burnt down a fleet of cars owned by Mr. Chinedu while the driver of the trailer escaped.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa stated that “there is need to upgrade the fire station in the State also to review the insurance law especially the third party.
The Speaker also calls for the upgrade of all fire service stations in a bid to tame and arrest fire accident in the state and also call on the Ministry of Information and Strategy to sensitize the public on how to manage emergency cases.
