The United States (US) has issued strong warning to the rebels fighting to take over the government of Ethiopia.
The US Ambassador to Ethiopia, Jeffrey Feltman, has cautioned that the deepening conflict in Ethiopia could elicit “disastrous consequences” for Ethiopia’s unity and its diplomatic relations with the U.S.
The US President, Joe Biden, also threatened that that his administration would revoke trade opportunities granted to Ethiopia, saying the actions of the rebels is tantamount to “gross violations of internationally recognized human rights.”
The Ethiopian crisis has attracted the attention of world leaders at the COP20 summit in Glasgow, Scotland. Some had at the recent G20 meeting advocated for sanctions or assistant to repel the rebels and support the legitimate government in Ethiopia.
