More details are surfacing about the suspected cultist attack on a man then identified as Victor—now recovering from burns at UNIOSUN Hospital after he was shot and slashed at Akede, Osogbo, on Saturday.
The University of Osun has further identified the victim as Oke Ademiju Victor.
Like the National Daily earlier reported, based on police information, the varsity authorities also confirmed it was a cult attack.
But the school management said the political science student is a regular student, in spite of his powers to withstand being shot at and cut with cutlasses in a gang attack.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, said the school got concerned when Victor didn’t show up for hs final paper.
“It was later discovered that he was attacked by unknown cultists in the early hours of Saturday.”
According to Adesoji, some of the residents of the area where the incident occurred explained that Victor was shouting that he would not join their cult group during the attack.
“The University security unit is currently working with the Osun Command of the Nigerian Police to ensure the culprits are exposed and brought to book.
“We hereby implore everyone to be calm and continue with their normal activities as the management of the University is committed and will continue to remain committed to the safety of the lives and properties of its stakeholders especially the students,” he said.
