Besides the stink a retired military intelligence officer kicked up recently with his freshen up of an old revelation of Boko Haram sponsorship, the US has added more.

Navy Commodore Kunle Olawunmi (retired) told Nigeria the finding of his investigation in 2011, and how he met the armed forces authorities, former CDS Gabriel Olonisakin, COAS Tukur Buratai, and others to discuss it.

None of them could lift a finger against the identified sponsors now in the President Muhammadu Buhari APC government, according to Olawunmi.

The National Daily reported how the late NSA Andrew Azzazi was also fired for speaking out against the sponsors of terrorists in the PDP-led government he served in 2012 under former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Amidst the row Olawunmi generated after his Channels TV interview last week, especially between the presidency and its critics, the US revealed its own involvement so far.

Mary Leonard, US ambassador to Nigeria, disclosed this August 30 in Abuja.

“I have had at least three conversations in the last two months on this subject,” she said.

“I won’t like to go into details.”

Just recently, hundreds of Nigerians were arrested in a 2020 sting operation following a piece of intelligence from the UAE–on financiers of terrorism in Nigeria.

No fewer than 400 suspects—mostly forex traders and changers— are now in detention centres across the nation as their investigation concludes.

The suspects recently got a lawyer to sue Justice Minister Malami and the federal government for violating their fundamental rights.
