President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Amaju Pinnick, has said that the federation will not support current Confederation of African Football president, Issa Hayatou, for an eighth term in office.

Hayatou faces opposition from Madagascar’s FA chief, Ahmad Ahmad, who is also an Executive Committee member of CAF, and Pinnick has thrown his weight behind him.

He said the reason for wanting another president lies in the rift between current FIFA president Gianni Infantino and Hayatou. Pinnick pointed out that the rift will be detrimental to African football. He said the Cameroonian would need to be open to different influences if he gets reelected.

“You have to listen to a larger audience instead of just a tiny cabal, you have to know it goes beyond you.

“I will definitely work with him if he wins but my prayer is we need a bridge builder and that person is Ahmad,” Pinnick disclosed.
