The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, demonstrated having firm control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the PDP at its Caucus Meeting conceded to continuation in office of the acting National Chairman, Illya Umar Damagum, an ally of Wike.
Wike had despite serving in the federal government of the All Progressives Congress (APC), attended the PDP Caucus Meeting in Abuja, with his protestant associates, former Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
According to the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party caucus directed that the PDP leadership to set up a discipline and reconciliation committee to reconcile all party members.
Ologunagba declared: “NEC meeting will not discuss any change in leaders.
“Rather, attention is focused on unity and reconciliation
“Caucus agreed that all congresses in the states and local government should be concluded between June and August this year.
“Caucus agreed on the extension of the constitution review committee of the party to accept new recommendations.”
Meanwhile, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, and other PDP leaders and stakeholders have arrived for the 98th National Executive Committee (NEC) holding on Thursday.
Wike appears to be weakening former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the PDP with successive influencing of the party leadership.
However, Dino Melaye had confronted former Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, challenging his participation of the PDP Caucus meeting in Abuja after anti-party activities of support President Bola Tinubu of the APC in the 2023 presidential election.
