Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has decried the collapse of Nigeria’s security system, declaring support for self-defence by citizens.

Governor Wike, hosting a delegation of Ekpeye ethnic nationality from Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Government Areas, at the Government House, Port Harcourt, emphasized that people must set aside their differences and work to keep the State safe, especially, from external attacks. The governor, therefore, encouraged Nigerians to unite and protect themselves against the increasing insecurity in the country and the inability of the federal government to guarantee the lives and property of citizens, reiterating that Nigeria’s security architecture has collapsed.

The delegation from Ekpeye ethnic nationality from Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Government Areas had disclosed that they were at the Government House to pledge their loyalty and support to Governor Nyesom Wike, following earlier solidarity visits by indigenes of Andoni and Ogoni.

The delegates pointed out that Governor Wike has done well, therefore, they encouraged the governor to aspire for a higher national office on the completion of his second tenure in 2023.

Governor Wike used the occasion to explain that the curfew proclaimed in the state is to prevent further attacks and lawlessness. The governor appealed to the people to report suspicious activities; he also appealed to parents in Rivers State to closely monitor their children and ensure they do not become willing tools for violence in the hand of enemies of the state.
