The anti-corruption crusade held in Lagos on Wednesday may have recorded artificial crowd in the attendance register. Subsequent incidence after the event revealed that the crowd which gave colour to the activity may have been mobilized through financial inducement and not necessarily women who were convinced about the anti-corruption crusade. Thus, the project is already showing signs of failure from the foundational stage.
It was gathered that over 20 women were stranded at the Haven Event Centre, GRA, Ikeja, on Wednesday, after the inauguration of the “Nigerian Women Against Corruption’’ in Lagos.
One of the victims was gathered to have said that a woman who was given money to share to them took to her heels with the money after the event.
“we are here to fight against corruption, yet somebody went away with our money, she was cited to have said.
“As soon as the woman collected the money, she left without giving us our shares,’’ she said.
She had stated that they were supposed to give each participant N1, 000, lamenting, ‘some of us have no money to go home.”
“Someone has called the woman, but she refused to pick her calls,’’ she added.
