The Delta State Police Command has narrated how mother of a seven-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by her father pleaded for the suspect’s release.
According to an X post by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, on Sunday, the woman cried for the husband to be released because the punishment was life Imprisonment.
His post read, “A father defiled his seven-year-old daughter. Guess what happened, it was the mother of the girl and the wife of the father who came begging and crying for the husband to be released because the punishment is life omprisonment.
“And she cannot raise the children alone. Trust my boss, he vehemently declined that request.
“Parents at times go behind and collect money from the family of the suspects and come back with an affidavit to withdraw the case.
“The command is making it clear now that offences of rape and defilement are not compoundable and as such any form of withdrawal by either the victim or the family will not be tolerated, they may even be charged alongside the rapist.”
