Social media platform X announced Tuesday it will suspend creators from its revenue-sharing program for 90 days if they post AI-generated videos of armed conflicts without clearly disclosing they were artificially made, as the company tightens content policies amid escalating Middle East warfare.
“During times of war, it is critical that people have access to authentic information on the ground. With today’s AI technologies, it is trivial to create content that can mislead people,” X’s head of product, Nikita Bier, wrote on X. “Starting now, users who post AI-generated videos of an armed conflict — without adding a disclosure that it was made with AI — will be suspended from Creator Revenue Sharing for 90 days”.
Additional violations will lead to permanent suspension from the program.
The policy change targets what the company described as a threat to information authenticity amid the ongoing war pitting the US and Israel against Iran.
Replying to one user, Bier explained that creators would need to click on the menu and select ‘Add Content Disclosures’ where they will find a ‘Made with AI’ label option.
Bier said enforcement will use the platform’s Community Notes feature as well as metadata and other signals embedded in the content to identify violations.
X will be able to check whether videos are AI-generated using available metadata imbued by AI systems in combination with Community Notes, X’s crowd-sourced fact-checking tool.

The policy specifically targets combat footage, addressing growing concerns about misinformation during active military conflicts. The update targets AI-generated combat content posted without disclosure amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
X debuted its revenue-sharing initiative in mid-2023. Through the program, X Premium-subscribed creators or verified organizations with at least 5 million organic impressions in the past three months with at least 500 verified followers are eligible to cash out on their content.
The announcement comes just days after X rolled out “Made with AI” and “Paid Partnership” disclosure labels across the platform as part of broader transparency initiatives. The “Made with AI” tag covers stuff like images, videos, or even text that’s been generated or edited by AI tools.
The timing is significant, coming three days after the U.S. and Israel launched strikes against Iran, sparking violent retaliation and raising fears of widespread misinformation as the conflict escalates.
The policy represents X’s attempt to balance creator monetization with information integrity during critical news events, though critics note that enforcement depends heavily on manual labeling and Community Notes, which may not catch all violators quickly enough to prevent viral spread of misleading war footage.
