Zenith Bank Plc has announced the opening of a new branch in Manchester, United Kingdom, marking a significant milestone in the bank’s international expansion and its drive to strengthen financial linkages between Africa and global markets.
The official commissioning ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, 2026, is expected to draw senior government officials from Nigeria and the UK, financial regulators, investors, corporate clients, and business leaders from both countries.
The high-profile event underscores deepening economic ties and growing cross-border investment opportunities between the two economies.
According to the bank, the new Manchester branch will complement its existing operations in the UK and serve as a strategic hub for businesses engaged in international trade and investment.
The branch will offer a range of services including corporate banking, trade finance, treasury solutions, and related financial services to clients operating across the UK, Europe, and Africa.
Speaking ahead of the launch, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Adaora Umeoji, described the move as a key step in the bank’s global growth trajectory.
“The opening of our Manchester branch represents another important step in Zenith Bank’s growth as a leading African financial institution connecting businesses and markets across continents.
Manchester is one of the United Kingdom’s most dynamic commercial centres, and our presence here will further strengthen financial connections between businesses in the UK and opportunities across Africa’s rapidly expanding markets,” she said.
Founded in 1990 by Chairman Jim Ovia, Zenith Bank has evolved into one of Africa’s most prominent financial institutions, known for its strong capital base and consistent profitability. Built on investments in technology, skilled personnel, and customer-focused service delivery, the bank has maintained a disciplined growth strategy and robust risk management framework.

Headquartered in Lagos, the bank operates more than 500 branches and business offices across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. It also maintains subsidiaries in several African countries, including Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, and Côte d’Ivoire, alongside representative or operational presence in major global financial centres such as the UK, France, the UAE, and China.
Manchester is widely regarded as one of the UK’s most vibrant economic centres, with a diverse industrial base spanning manufacturing, engineering, logistics, technology, and consumer goods. Its strong commercial ecosystem and outward-looking economy align closely with Zenith Bank’s strengths in corporate banking, structured finance, and trade facilitation.
The new branch is expected to work closely with the bank’s London operations and its broader international network to support companies seeking to expand across markets, finance cross-border transactions, and tap emerging opportunities in Africa.
Industry observers say the expansion reflects Zenith Bank’s long-term strategy of positioning itself as a global African financial institution capable of facilitating international trade flows and investment into the continent.
With the Manchester branch set to commence operations, the bank continues to advance its vision of connecting businesses, enabling capital movement, and building stronger economic bridges between Africa and the rest of the world.
