Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has expressed pessimism over the reintegration of repentant Boko Haram terrorists into the society. The governor emphasized that the surrender of 1,000 repentant Boko Haram terrorists to the security operatives, creates apprehension of two extremely dangerous security situations in the state, increasing security risks for the state government and the people.

Governor Zulum was of the view that except stakeholders and the state government work together to address the current security crisis, the insecurity crisis might escalate to civil insurrection. He advocated for the collaboration of stakeholders in the state, especially, representatives from attacked villages in the state’s 27 councils, the state government and security operatives.

Governor Zulum decried that the ongoing surrender of repentant Boko Haram terrorists has put the people in a difficult situation, increasing security risk in the society.

The governor, however, said that a meeting would be convened to enable stakeholders to critically evaluate the security situation and develop a plan for moving forward.

The military authorities had last week announced that some Boko Haram terrorists have repented and surrendered to the authorities.
