5 Ukrainian sportsmen that have picked up arms to defend their country against Russia

The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has greatly affected the lives of Ukrainian citizens. Many has quit their profession just to defend their home country from the Vladimir Putin led nation. Sports men and women are not left out of this current patriotic act. A lot of sports men and women both Footballers, boxers etc has picked up arms to as they support their military in this fight. Some of them are:

1. Oleksandr Usyk: he is a professional boxer and the current holder of the WBF, WBO, lBF and IBO world heavyweight title which he took from Nigerian boxer, Anthony Joshua after defeating him in September 2021. He has since join up the war.

2. Vasiliy Lomachenko: he is a Ukrainian professional boxer. He is a 2 times Olympic gold medalist and has also won several other titles but left all these to defend his home country against the invading Russians.

3. Yuriy Vernydub: for the love of his country, the Ukrainian tactician resigned his position as the manager of Sheriff Tiraspol and returned so as to help defend his nation.

4. Sergiy Stakhovsky: the Tennis player abandoned the comfort of his home, wife and children and also dropped his racket to return home to defend his nation.

5. Dmytro Pidruchynyi: the Biathlon world champion joined up in the ongoing war against the Russians just barely 3 weeks after the Winter Olympics.
