Akpabio urges Northern youths to mobilise grassroots support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has urged youths across northern Nigeria to intensify grassroots mobilisation in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing the administration’s economic reforms and development agenda.
Akpabio made the call on Wednesday when a northern youth organisation, Arewa Revival Project, led by its coordinator, Hon. Mustafa Ibrahim, paid him a courtesy visit at his office.
The group, whose members are drawn from the 19 northern states, presented the Senate President with an award in recognition of his contributions to national development and his leadership of the National Assembly.
Responding, Akpabio urged the youths to promote what he described as the achievements of the Tinubu administration and encourage Nigerians to support continuity in government.
He also challenged them to counter what he characterised as misleading narratives on social media, arguing that the President’s economic policies required time to deliver their intended results.
“I expect the Nigerian youth to rise above social media propaganda because this President has managed to take us out of a mono-economy that was dependent only on crude oil,” Akpabio said.
He cited tax reforms and changes to outdated laws as examples of the administration’s efforts to reshape the economy.
The Senate President also declared his support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition, saying members of the National Assembly had given the administration a pass mark.

“You don’t change a winning team. He is doing so well. Allow his policies to crystallise. This is not somebody who is coming to experiment. He is already doing it,” he said.
Akpabio urged the youths to engage communities directly rather than rely solely on online debates, alleging that some individuals attacking the administration on social media were being paid to do so.
He encouraged the group to organise youth gatherings to explain government policies and defend the administration’s record.
According to him, young Nigerians have a significant role to play in shaping the country’s future, adding that policies being implemented by the current government were intended to strengthen national stability.
On security, the Senate President expressed optimism that the proposed establishment of state police could soon become a reality.
He said about 30 states had endorsed the constitutional amendment process aimed at introducing decentralised policing in the country.
“As I speak with you now, for the first time in the history of Nigeria, it may not take us a month before we have State Police system,” Akpabio said.
He argued that decentralising policing would further strengthen security and improve responses to local threats.
The Senate President also expressed confidence that Nigeria would overcome its current security challenges, urging the youths to remain hopeful as they mobilised support for the President.
Earlier, Ibrahim said the award was presented to Akpabio in recognition of his contributions to national development and achievements under his leadership of the National Assembly.
The group’s endorsement of Tinubu’s re-election agenda comes as political mobilisation gathers momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
