A personnel of the Amotekun Corps has reportedly sustained injuries following a confrontation with a suspected Fulani herder during a boundary enforcement operation in southwestern Nigeria.

Security sources said the incident occurred during a routine operation aimed at enforcing boundary regulations and maintaining order in a rural community. The situation reportedly escalated when a confrontation broke out between the officer and the suspect.

According to preliminary accounts, the officer was struck in the face during the altercation, resulting in visible injuries. He was subsequently attended to, though the extent of his condition has not been officially disclosed.

Details surrounding the circumstances that led to the confrontation remain unclear, as authorities continue to review the incident.

Officials of the Amotekun Corps have confirmed that an internal investigation has been launched to establish the sequence of events and determine whether any additional parties were involved.

Community leaders in the affected area have also been engaged as part of efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent further conflict.

The Amotekun Corps was established by South-West states as a regional security initiative to support law enforcement agencies in tackling insecurity, including clashes between farmers and herders, illegal logging, and other community-level security concerns.

Incidents involving operatives and herders have, in some cases, heightened sensitivities in rural areas, particularly where disputes over land use and grazing routes persist.

Authorities say further updates will be provided as investigations progress, while urging calm and restraint among residents in the affected communities.
