Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has described his time working with Raheem Sterling at Manchester City as “exceptional.”

Arteta, who served as an assistant to Pep Guardiola from 2016 to 2019, praised Sterling’s impact and the strong relationship they built during their time together.

Chelsea, who signed Sterling for £50 million two years ago, are reportedly open to offers for the 29-year-old, with Crystal Palace among the Premier League clubs showing interest.

Despite his uncertain future, Sterling is keen to remain in the Premier League as he aims to return to the England squad.

Reflecting on his experience with Sterling, Arteta said, “My time with Raheem was exceptional. We built a really strong relationship together. He was unbelievable at that time. He taught me a lot about how players think and how we can support them. He is someone I have really strong feelings about.”

As Arsenal prepares for their upcoming match against Aston Villa, Arteta also addressed the club’s transfer activity.

While the Gunners have secured high-profile signings like Ricardo Calafiori and are close to finalizing a £33 million deal for Mikel Merino, Arteta hinted that more moves could happen before the transfer window closes. “Anything can happen, both ways, and you have to be ready,” he said.

Arteta also confirmed that discussions over a new contract at Arsenal will take place after the transfer window shuts. His current deal expires next summer, but the 42-year-old coach assured fans that there will be no issues in renewing his contract. “We are on it, and we will take care of that at the right moment,” Arteta stated.

Meanwhile, Chelsea is reportedly in talks with clubs interested in Sterling, who has been training away from the team’s Cobham base. Sterling prefers a permanent move and was recently left out of Chelsea’s squad for their season opener and UEFA Conference League qualifier against Servette.

His No. 7 shirt has been reassigned to summer signing Pedro Neto, although Sterling was still listed as No. 7 in the match program due to printing deadlines.
