Azpilicueta Graduates With Merit in Football Directorship
Former Chelsea captain César Azpilicueta has celebrated a major achievement away from football after graduating with Merit in Global Football Sport Directorship.
Azpilicueta marked the occasion alongside the PFA Business School Class of 2026, describing the graduation as a special moment after completing the programme.
In a post on his Facebook account on Wednesday, the former Spain international reflected on the work involved in completing the qualification and thanked those who supported him throughout his studies.
“It was really special to celebrate graduating with Merit in Global Football Sport Directorship,” Azpilicueta said.
He also described the graduation ceremony as an opportunity to celebrate with his classmates, reconnect with familiar faces and look ahead to the next stage of his career.
“A fantastic day to celebrate the hard work, catch up with old and new faces, and look ahead to what comes next,” he added.
Azpilicueta congratulated his fellow graduates and praised the collective achievement of the PFA Business School Class of 2026.
“Congratulations to the entire PFA Business School Class of 2026,” he said.
The former defender also thanked the PFA Business School and the University of Portsmouth for their support and guidance throughout the programme.
“Thank you to everyone at PFA Business School and the University of Portsmouth who guided us throughout the journey and helped us get it over the line,” Azpilicueta said.
The qualification adds an academic dimension to Azpilicueta’s extensive experience in professional football, where he spent much of his career in leadership roles.
Azpilicueta joined Chelsea in 2012 and went on to make more than 500 appearances for the club, winning major honours including the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup. He also captained the club during his time at Stamford Bridge.
The former Spain international later continued his playing career with Atlético Madrid before moving into the next phase of his professional journey.
With his Global Football Sport Directorship qualification now completed, Azpilicueta has added further knowledge in football management and sporting leadership as he prepares for his next chapter in the game.
