The Ekiti State Government has stepped up efforts to position tourism as a major contributor to the state’s economy, with a fresh push for private-sector investment in its natural attractions.

The government is particularly seeking investors to develop the iconic seven-level Arinta Waterfall in Ipole-Iloro into a world-class eco-tourism destination.

Officials said the state’s hills, waterfalls, warm springs and other natural attractions offer opportunities for investments in hospitality, outdoor recreation, adventure tourism and related services.

The government is also highlighting Ekiti’s large student population, driven by its growing number of tertiary institutions, as a potential market for recreational and hospitality businesses.

According to stakeholders, developing tourism infrastructure around sites such as Arinta Waterfall could generate employment, increase local economic activity and create new revenue opportunities for communities and investors.

Community leaders and media stakeholders, however, stressed the importance of ensuring that tourism development does not undermine the natural environment surrounding the attractions.

They advocated the use of digital mapping, virtual tours and other technology-driven tools to promote Ekiti’s tourism assets to domestic and international audiences while supporting sustainable conservation.

The renewed investment drive also comes amid growing interest in the Ikogosi Warm Springs area, another of Ekiti’s major tourist attractions.

Stakeholders said linking attractions such as Arinta Waterfall and Ikogosi Warm Springs through improved infrastructure, hospitality facilities and coordinated destination marketing could strengthen Ekiti’s tourism ecosystem.

The government’s strategy is therefore centred on attracting private capital through partnerships and concession arrangements, while positioning local communities to benefit from increased tourism activity.

With improved infrastructure, digital promotion and sustainable management, stakeholders believe Ekiti has significant potential to develop its natural attractions into commercially viable destinations.

The state government’s latest initiative signals a broader attempt to diversify Ekiti’s economy by harnessing its natural and cultural assets and developing tourism as a sustainable source of investment, jobs and revenue.
