The Federal Government is set to commence repairs of the damaged Abuja-Kaduna rail line after the attack on passenger trains by bandits. The federal government is also contemplating recruiting locals to provide security for the workers at black spots.
The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on a visit to victims of the bandits attack on a Kaduna-bound train in Kaduna on Wednesday, disclosed President Muhammadu Buhari has issued a directive to fix the rail and make it usable; affirming that the ministry has set modalities in place to commence work immediately.
Amaechi further said that the federal government is also working out plans to recruit locals in the communities where the bandits operate along the rail to provide security service and protect the facilities.
According to the Transportation minister, “the office of the National Security Adviser will be consulted to ensure that those that will be recruited for the service are people of integrity.”
The visited various hospitals which include the Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna where 25 victims were admitted.
