Four adults and a 15-year-old girl have been charged following the death of a newborn baby girl in Sheffield, United Kingdom.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the baby was found dead at a property on Holywell Heights in the Wincobank area of Sheffield on Sunday, August 30, after police received reports raising concerns about the safety of an infant.

A forensic post-mortem examination subsequently established that the baby’s cause of death was stab wounds, prompting a murder investigation by South Yorkshire Police.

The four adults charged are Andrea Skopova, 20; Peter Horvath, 19; Peter Horvath, 38; and Nina Horvathova, 37.

The four have each been charged with murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and perverting the course of justice by allegedly taking steps to conceal the killing of the infant.

The 15-year-old girl, whose identity cannot legally be disclosed because of her age, has been charged with perverting the course of justice.

All five defendants have been remanded in custody and were due to appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, September 2.

Police initially arrested seven people in connection with the investigation. Two women, aged 26 and 37, were subsequently released on bail while enquiries continued.

South Yorkshire Police said detectives were continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death and urged members of the public to avoid speculation or the circulation of unverified information online.

The CPS also stressed that the defendants have the right to a fair trial and that the charges do not constitute a finding of guilt. The prosecution’s decision means there is considered to be sufficient evidence for the case to be brought before a court, while the facts of the case will ultimately be determined through the judicial process.

The investigation remains ongoing.
