The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) has announced the public presentation of its groundbreaking publication titled “Nigeria Media Renaissance: GOCOP Perspectives on Online Publishing” scheduled to hold on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at the Abuja Continental Hotel by 10:00 a.m.

In a press statement issued by the Guild’s Publicity Secretary, Ogbuefi Remmy Nweke, the event is described as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s literary, journalistic, and digital publishing evolution.

According to the President of GOCOP, Ms. Maureen Chigbo, the public presentation of the book will also feature a fundraising campaign for the proposed N2.3 billion GOCOP Media Centre—a multi-purpose facility that will house a modern secretariat, a 21st-century digital library, and state-of-the-art event and training halls.

“This landmark publication chronicles the transformative journey of Nigeria’s media landscape, highlighting the pivotal role of online publishing in shaping public discourse, enhancing transparency, and fostering national development,” Chigbo said.

“It is a testament to the resilience and innovation of Nigerian media practitioners in the digital age.”

The event is expected to attract leading figures across government, media, private sector, academia, and civil society, who will gather to reflect on the opportunities, challenges, and growing influence of online publishing in the digital era, particularly in the context of national development and democratic accountability.

Nigeria Media Renaissance traces the historical trajectory of online journalism in Nigeria while offering a rich body of insights on press freedom, civil liberties, media ethics, and the evolving role of the media in sustaining democracy.

The publication also showcases the voices and experiences of GOCOP’s members—seasoned editors and senior journalists—who transitioned from traditional print and broadcast platforms into the fast-paced realm of digital journalism.

“The book is not just a chronicle; it is a vital contribution to the ongoing discourse about media freedom and the essential role of journalism in the digital age,” the statement noted.

Established to uphold ethical standards in digital reporting, GOCOP today boasts 120 members, comprising a constellation of former editors and senior journalists who now lead some of the most influential online news platforms in Nigeria.

The Guild has become a strong voice for credible and responsible online journalism, championing professionalism in a space often fraught with misinformation and regulatory challenges.

The June 17 event is anticipated to galvanize support from stakeholders committed to the future of ethical journalism and the development of a robust media infrastructure in Nigeria.

GOCOP invites the public, especially media enthusiasts, policymakers, and development partners, to join in what promises to be a historic and forward-looking event for the future of journalism in Nigeria.
