Gridlock as gas Tanker overturns in Lagos

A loaded gas tanker overturned on Wednesday in the Anthony Oke area of Lagos State, resulting in severe traffic congestion and gridlock on one of the city’s main roads.

The accident, which occurred near the TREM axis inward, prompted swift action from emergency services to manage the situation and ensure public safety.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) was quick to notify the public of the incident through a series of updates and videos shared on X.com, formerly known as Twitter.

According to LASTMA, officers were immediately deployed to the scene to direct traffic and help clear the obstruction.

“A loaded gas tanker has overturned at Anthony Oke, near TREM, inward. Necessary action has been taken, and our officers are firmly positioned to divert traffic to alternative routes,” LASTMA reported. The authority emphasized that the situation was being handled with urgency to minimize the impact on road users.

In addition to LASTMA’s efforts, personnel from the Lagos State Fire Service were also on the ground to mitigate any potential hazards associated with the overturned tanker. The gas tanker’s load posed a significant risk, necessitating careful handling by the emergency services.

LASTMA advised motorists to use the service lane after Anthony Oke to bypass the blocked road or seek alternative routes to avoid the gridlock.

Motorists were also urged to exercise patience as the recovery process continued.

The evacuation of the overturned tanker commenced swiftly, with LASTMA personnel coordinating the efforts to clear the road and restore normal traffic flow.

The operation was expected to be completed as quickly as possible, with the safety of road users being the top priority.
