Residents of Igboho in Oyo State erupted in celebration after a kidnapped family, including a pregnant woman, her children and a sibling, reportedly regained their freedom following a two-hour ultimatum issued by Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

The reported release of the victims triggered widespread jubilation across the community, with residents pouring into the streets to celebrate what many described as a major relief after days of anxiety and uncertainty.

Videos circulating on social media showed large crowds singing, dancing and expressing gratitude over the safe return of the abducted family. The atmosphere in the town was one of excitement as community members welcomed the victims back and hailed efforts that may have contributed to their release.

The development came shortly after Sunday Igboho publicly expressed outrage over the growing insecurity in Igboho and neighbouring communities, where residents have repeatedly complained about cases of kidnapping, attacks and violent crimes.

In an earlier viral video, the activist addressed community representatives, traditional rulers and other stakeholders, condemning what he described as the persistent threat posed by suspected criminal elements operating in the area.

During the meeting, Igboho accused the perpetrators of terrorising residents and warned that continued attacks and abductions would no longer be tolerated in his hometown.

He also referenced previous kidnapping incidents, alleging that some victims and individuals who delivered ransom payments had been killed despite efforts to secure their release.

“The person who brought the ransom, you still killed him and spared only one person,” he said while expressing frustration over the situation.

The activist subsequently issued a two-hour ultimatum demanding the release of the abducted family, warning that failure to comply could attract serious consequences.

“I am Sunday Igboho. I am calm because my fathers asked me to be calm with you. Let this be the last time such a thing will happen,” he declared.

He further stressed that he would not remain passive while residents of the community continued to live in fear due to recurring incidents of kidnapping and insecurity.

Shortly after the ultimatum expired, videos emerged showing residents celebrating the reported release of the victims, fueling speculation that the warning may have influenced the outcome.

However, the exact circumstances surrounding the family’s freedom remained unclear as of the time of filing this report. Authorities had yet to provide an official account of how the victims were released.

It was also not immediately known whether any ransom was paid to secure their freedom or whether security agencies played a direct role in the operation that led to their release.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over worsening insecurity in parts of Oyo State, particularly in rural communities where residents have repeatedly raised alarm over the activities of kidnappers and other criminal groups.

Security agencies are expected to provide further clarification on the incident, including details of any ongoing investigations and the circumstances that led to the safe return of the abducted family.

For many residents of Igboho, however, the immediate focus remains the safe return of the victims, an outcome that has brought relief and renewed hope to a community that had been gripped by fear and uncertainty.
