Maresca reveals Guardiola’s reaction to Man City’s 4-2 defeat to PSG
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has revealed that former coach Pep Guardiola remained positive about the team’s performance despite their 4-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League.
Guardiola watched the encounter at the Etihad Stadium, marking his first return to the venue since leaving the club in the summer.
Speaking to the media after the match, Maresca disclosed that he discussed both halves of the game with the Spanish tactician, who reportedly expressed satisfaction with aspects of City’s display despite the disappointing result.
“I saw him [Guardiola] after, we were talking about the game, about the first-half, second-half,” Maresca said, according to the Manchester Evening News.
“He was, first of all, very happy to be at the stadium, and then also very positive about things that he had seen during the game.”

The defeat to PSG represented a difficult night for City, who struggled to contain the French champions during the Champions League encounter.
Despite the result, Guardiola’s reported assessment suggests he identified encouraging elements in the team’s performance, even as City faced questions over their defensive organisation and ability to manage the opposition’s attacking threat.
Guardiola’s return to the Etihad also attracted attention, given his previous success with Manchester City and his influence on the club’s playing philosophy.
During his tenure, he established City as one of Europe’s leading sides, winning major domestic honours and guiding the club to Champions League glory.
Maresca’s comments offered a glimpse into Guardiola’s reaction to his former team’s performance, indicating that the Spaniard remained interested in the club and pleased to be back at the stadium.
However, City’s 4-2 loss to PSG highlighted the challenges facing the team as they seek to maintain their competitiveness in Europe’s premier club competition.
