Messi suffers 13th major final defeat as Spain end Argentina’s World Cup title defence

Lionel Messi’s illustrious career added another painful chapter on Sunday after Argentina lost 1-0 to Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, marking the 13th major final defeat of the football icon’s career.

The defeat at MetLife Stadium ended Argentina’s hopes of retaining the World Cup and denied Messi a second consecutive world title as captain of the Albiceleste.
