In a groundbreaking move aimed at enhancing vocational education, the Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the introduction of 15 skill acquisition programs into the curriculum of primary and junior secondary schools across the country.

This initiative, set to begin in the 2025 academic year, aims to equip students with practical skills that will prepare them for future job markets.

Under the new curriculum, students will have the opportunity to choose one skill from a diverse range of 15 options, allowing them to gain both theoretical and practical knowledge in that field before advancing to the next class.

This program spans from Primary 1 to Junior Secondary School 3, ensuring that students receive a comprehensive education in their chosen skill over a nine-year period.

The 15 skills include:

  1. Plumbing
  2. Tiling and Floor Works
  3. POP Installation
  4. Event Decoration and Management
  5. Bakery and Confectioneries
  6. Hairstyling
  7. Makeup
  8. Interior Design
  9. GSM Repairs
  10. Satellite/TV Antenna Installation
  11. CCTV, Intercom Installation, and Maintenance
  12. Solar Installation and Maintenance
  13. Garment Making
  14. Agriculture and Processing (including crop production, beekeeping, horticulture).

To ensure the successful implementation of this program, the government will train, retrain, and employ teachers in both public and private schools nationwide.
