Ikorodu City FC captain dismisses “Whipping Boys” tag
Our previous results were not good because we were just unlucky. After the Kano Pillars match, we haven’t lost scandalously again,” Ojetoye stated, emphasizing the team’s resilience and determination to improve.
Waliu Ojetoye, captain of Ikorodu City Football Club, has rejected the label of “whipping boys” being assigned to his team in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Speaking to the press ahead of their Match Day 7 clash against Heartland FC in Owerri, Ojetoye highlighted the team’s recent 3-0 victory over Bendel Insurance FC as evidence of their potential.
Prior to this win, Ikorodu City had struggled, suffering two consecutive home losses to Rangers International (0-1) and Nasarawa United (1-2), as well as an earlier 0-3 defeat to Kano Pillars in their debut match.
Despite their challenging start and the recent dismissal of their coach, Bright Ozebagbe, Ojetoye remains optimistic.

“We are not the whipping boys at all. We will prove ourselves because we have quality players,” he asserted.
He attributed previous losses to bad luck and expressed confidence that the win against Bendel Insurance would serve as a morale booster for the team.
Currently, Ikorodu City FC sits at the bottom of the 20-team NPFL table with four points from six matches, consisting of one win, one draw, and four losses.
Ojetoye called on fans to rally behind the team, promising that “better days are ahead.”
