Over 1000 cases of cataracts and pterygium discovered in Lagos

ROTARY Club of Lagos Palmgrove Estate has commenced its free eye screening for the 10th camp eye surgery with over 1000 cases of cataracts and pterygium discovered during the exercise.
Speaking at the 10th camp eye screening, Chairman Services Project Maya Shankar Nalode said that the club in the last 10 years has been carrying out eye screening exercise free of charge.
“Palm Groove Rotary Club in conjunction with Indo Eye Foundation knows the importance of sight and a lot of people have been infected with eye problem. Therefore, this programme is carried out annually while ensuring that no fewer than 1000 Nigerians would benefit from the eye surgery,” he said.
Shankar said that 14 other Rotary club districts are fully involved to collaborate in the exercise.

According to him, previous statistics put the percentage of beneficiaries who came for screening at only 15 percent as opposed to the current figure, which signifies that more people are getting infected.
Rtn Patel G.N further stated that the club have been in the forefront at refurbishing the primary health centre, vocational training, blood donation and limb artificial donation.
He said. “I am appealing to all our donor communities to always support the mission and vision of the club to offer free eye surgeries to the needy and underprivileged.”
Rotarian Olu Oyewole commended the effort of the club in the last 10 years.
Olu advised parent to always check their wards whenever they develop problem with their eye immediately and take them to nearest the healthcare.
