Ademola Lookman joins elite nominees for 2024 globe soccer awards
Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman has been named among the nominees for the prestigious 2024 Globe Soccer Awards, placing him alongside some of the biggest football icons, including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé, and Erling Haaland.
The announcement, made on Thursday by the award organizers via their official account on X (formerly Twitter), underscores the Nigerian star’s remarkable rise in global football this year.
Lookman’s nomination comes on the heels of an exceptional season for both club and country. The 27-year-old forward capped off an impressive year by finishing 14th in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings—a nod that reflects his growing influence on the field.
Additionally, he is in contention for the CAF Men’s Player of the Year award, further cementing his status as one of Africa’s top talents.
Experts have hailed Lookman’s achievements as a testament to his skill and determination.
“Lookman’s inclusion among the nominees for such an esteemed award is well-deserved. He has showcased not just technical prowess but an ability to deliver in crucial moments,” said former Nigerian international and football analyst Daniel Amokachi.

Lookman’s standout moments in 2023 included his pivotal role at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire, where he netted three goals in seven appearances for Nigeria, demonstrating his importance to the Super Eagles.
His crowning achievement came in the UEFA Europa League final, where he secured a historic hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen, propelling Atalanta to their first European trophy and earning widespread acclaim.
Football commentator Musa Babatunde noted the significance of Lookman’s performances on such high-stakes platforms. “Scoring a hat-trick in a European final is no small feat, especially against a strong side like Leverkusen. It speaks volumes about Lookman’s composure and skill under pressure,” Babatunde said.
Analysts believe that Lookman’s Globe Soccer nomination signals a shift in recognition for African talents making waves in European football.
“It’s inspiring to see players like Lookman earn spots on globally respected lists alongside the likes of Messi and Ronaldo. It highlights the strides African footballers are making on the world stage,” added sports journalist Ifeanyi Okwuoma.
As Lookman gears up for potential further accolades, his story reflects not only personal achievement but a beacon of hope for aspiring footballers across Nigeria and Africa.
The 2024 Globe Soccer Awards will offer yet another opportunity for the winger to solidify his place among the game’s elite.
