The Plateau State Government has imposed an immediate dusk-to-dawn curfew on Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas following a fresh wave of attacks and killings in parts of the state.

The curfew, which took effect on Monday, September 21, 2026, restricts movement in the three local government areas between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. daily until further notice.

The directive was announced by the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, in a statement issued on Monday.

According to the government, the measure is intended to maintain public order, protect lives and property, and give security agencies the opportunity to stabilise the affected areas.

Residents in Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu were directed to comply with the restriction and organise their commercial, agricultural and personal activities around the curfew hours.

The government also directed security agencies to strictly enforce the curfew and announced an immediate ban on the use of motorcycles throughout the affected areas.

The measure follows a series of recent attacks in Plateau State. Premium Times reported that at least nine people were killed in separate attacks between Saturday night and Sunday morning in communities in Barkin Ladi, Riyom and surrounding areas.

Five people were reportedly killed when a vehicle travelling towards Gana-Ropp in Barkin Ladi came under attack on Saturday night. Two others, including a pastor, were also reportedly killed while travelling to church at Dorowa Babuje on Sunday morning. Separate killings were reported in Baten Wereng in Riyom and Ratyidi in Fan District.

The Plateau State Government had earlier expressed concern over fresh attacks recorded in Mangu and other parts of the state, urging residents to cooperate with security agencies and avoid reprisal attacks.

The latest security measures are aimed at restricting movement during the night, when authorities consider the affected areas particularly vulnerable, while allowing security personnel to intensify operations.

The state government assured law-abiding residents that security personnel deployed to enforce the restrictions would operate professionally.

It also appealed to residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies and provide credible information that could assist efforts to prevent further attacks and apprehend those responsible.

The curfew will remain in force until further notice.
