The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with an alleged threat to kidnap and kill a 50-year-old resident of Seni Salla Village, Saki, and members of his family.

The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation after the victim, identified as Metu Jilani, reported receiving threatening telephone calls from unknown persons.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, Jilani reported the matter to the police on September 19, 2026, after allegedly receiving the threatening calls on September 13.

The callers reportedly claimed they had been contracted to kidnap and kill Jilani and his family, while warning that any attempt to flee would result in the abduction of his younger brother.

The suspects subsequently demanded ₦3 million from the victim and provided an account belonging to a Point-of-Sale operator, Muhydeen Salihu, in Gwasoro Village, Kosubosu, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, for the payment.

Rather than pay the full amount, Jilani reportedly transferred ₦100,000 into the account provided by the callers.

Police said the transaction provided an important lead in the investigation, as operatives monitored individuals who attempted to access the funds.

On September 18, two men, identified by the police as Hantsi Abdullahi and Hantsi Liman, both from Boseperu in Kosubosu, reportedly went to the POS operator to withdraw the money.

According to the police, Abdullahi was arrested while Liman escaped from the scene.
