Police launch investigation into death of 60-year-old man at Jigawa hotel

The Jigawa State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a 60-year-old man who reportedly died after suffering a medical emergency in a hotel room in Dutse, the state capital.

The deceased was said to have checked into the hotel with a 20-year-old woman before the incident occurred.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the man developed breathing difficulties at about 12:50 p.m. shortly after ordering food to the room. Hotel staff immediately alerted the police, prompting officers from the Yalwawa Division to respond.

The victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Dutse, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.

SP Adam said detectives secured the hotel room and carried out a preliminary examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

“Police detectives secured the scene and conducted a preliminary examination. Food items, beverages, a suspected sexual enhancement substance, and other personal effects were recovered from the hotel room for further laboratory analysis,” he said.

The police spokesperson added that the woman who was in the room with the deceased is cooperating with investigators and has provided statements to assist in determining the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following preliminary medical examinations and documentation at the hospital, the man’s body was released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

The police said investigations are ongoing, noting that the outcome of laboratory analyses and other forensic examinations will determine whether any further legal action will be taken.
