PSG’s Kvaratskhelia to undergo surgery after ACL rupture
Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery in the coming days after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during the club’s 4-2 victory over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.
PSG confirmed the injury in a medical update on Wednesday, October 21, following the Georgian international’s forced withdrawal from Tuesday’s match at the Parc des Princes.
Kvaratskhelia sustained the injury shortly before the hour mark and was unable to put weight on his right leg as medical staff helped him off the pitch.
The injury is a major setback for PSG, who are seeking to maintain their strong start to the Champions League campaign.
The club did not provide a specific recovery timeline for the 25-year-old, whose return will depend on surgery and subsequent rehabilitation.
Kvaratskhelia was not the only PSG player to suffer an injury during the match. Forward Ousmane Dembélé sustained a left-thigh injury, while captain Marquinhos suffered an injury to his right thigh.
According to the club, both players will remain under treatment over the coming weeks.
The injuries leave PSG manager Luis Enrique facing potential selection challenges as the French side continues its domestic and European campaigns.
PSG defeated Barcelona 4-2 in Tuesday’s encounter, but the victory was overshadowed by the injuries to three key players.
The club has yet to announce when Kvaratskhelia is expected to return to competitive action.
