“The Presidential Congratulations to the election victory of Bayelsa Governor Diri is unprecedented and commendable.”
However, this may not be the first time a president would be congratulating an opposition governor who won an off-cycle election in Nigeria.
Before departing office, former President Muhammadu Buhari congratulated Governor Adebayo Adeleke of Osun State on his victory in the governorship election wherein he defeated an All Progressives Congress (APC) incumbent governor. Apparently, the congratulations of Governor Diri by President Tinubu may not be unprecedented as Sani said.
