An Assistant Superintendent of Police, Vincent Oke is facing an investigative panel set up by the Enugu state Commissioner of Police over an alleged sexual assault on a 17-year old girl in the state.

In a statement signed by the spokesman of the command, Daniel Ndukwe, the embattled officer is serving at the Awgu police division of the command.

He said the CP ordered the state criminal intelligence and investigation department to carry out a thorough probe into the allegation.

The police spokesperson said the alleged sexual assault occurred in March 2022, but the family of the 17-year-old recently brought up the matter.

“The commissioner further directed that the investigation be concluded within the shortest possible time,” the statement reads.

“He assured that the case would be given the deserved attention and that the ASP or any other person or persons found culpable, would be appropriately sanctioned.”

The development comes hours after operatives of the Ogun police command arrested one Michael Abiodun, identified as a pastor of The Light House Gospel Church, over the alleged rape of a 12-year-old member of his church.

According to the police, the cleric asked the victim to come to the church for “special prayer”.

The cleric was, however, said to have forced the girl into a room within the church premises where he allegedly raped her.
