Vondrousova appeals four-year ban to CAS

Former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against her four-year ban for refusing an anti-doping test.

The 27-year-old Czech was suspended in June after the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) charged her with denying a doping control officer entry to her home to conduct an out-of-competition test in December 2025.

Her suspension is due to end on 21 June 2030.

CAS confirmed that it had received Vondrousova’s appeal, although a hearing date has not yet been set.

Vondrousova said she was at “breaking point after months of physical and mental stress” when she refused the test.

She also said she feared for her safety when the officer arrived at her home at around 20:00 on 3 December, claiming they failed to properly identify themselves or follow the required protocol.

However, a tribunal ruled that Vondrousova had provided “no compelling justification” for refusing the test or for receiving a shorter ban.

Players are required to provide their whereabouts for a designated hour each day so anti-doping authorities can conduct unannounced tests outside competition.

Vondrousova has consistently denied doping and said she has never failed a test.

“I have never doped, I have never had a positive test,” she said after receiving the ban.

The Czech, who became the first unseeded player to win the Wimbledon women’s singles title in 2023, has also reached a French Open final and won Olympic silver.

She has not played since reaching the second round of the Adelaide International in January and has since fallen to 153rd in the WTA rankings.

Her appeal to CAS could determine whether the four-year suspension is upheld, reduced or overturned.
