Why Tinubu’s 2023 ambitions could suffer a setback after the 2022 APC national convention

Bola Tinubu is undoubtedly one of the most prepared aspirants for the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2023 presidential ticket, and by implication, the race for the 2023 Presidency. The former Governor of Lagos state has continued to traverse the length and breadth of Nigeria, consulting with critical stakeholders, and also strategizing on how to actualize his lifelong ambitions of becoming a Nigerian President.

The former Governor of Lagos state, who is reputed to be the National Leader of the APC, and the most influential politician in the Southwest region of Nigeria, has no doubt, showing signs of his determination to wrestle the APC 2023 presidential ticket from the party, despite strong opposition by some cabals within the party. However, his 2023 presidential ambitions could a suffer setback immediately after the forthcoming March 26, 2022 National Convention of the APC.

It can be recalled that for a while now, there have been alleged moves by some members of the APC, to scuttle Bola Tinubu’s 2023 presidential ambitions. A couple of weeks ago, National Daily reports that a cabal within the Presidency, is not in support of his 2023 ambitions. Despite this, the former Governor of Lagos state has remained resilient, banking on his political magic wands, and foot soldiers spread across the country, to actualize his ambitions.

Despite the abundance of resources at Tinubu’s disposal, and many political allies that are spread across the country, his 2023 presidential ambitions could suffer a setback right after the APC National Convention due to the move by some powers within the party, to impose certain individuals as the party’s consensus candidates for key offices within the party.

Recall that National Daily reports that President Buhari has endorsed some individuals, and also signed the zoning document.

These candidates who were allegedly nominated by the cabal kicking against Bola Tinubu’s 2023 ambitions, will undoubtedly work to favour their masters. The implication of this for Bola Tinubu’s 2023 presidential bid, is that despite his growing influence, the few stakeholders of the party, in conjunction with the incoming executives, could use their offices to scuttle his efforts.
