Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, has dismissed reports linking him to a potential 2027 presidential ticket with former President Goodluck Jonathan, describing the claims as inaccurate and speculative.

Mohammed clarified that he has no plans to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or serve as Jonathan’s running mate under any political arrangement ahead of the next general election.

The governor’s response followed widespread speculation that he could team up with Jonathan after the former president was reportedly adopted as the presidential candidate of a faction of the PDP led by former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Turaki.

Jonathan was said to have emerged as the faction’s presidential candidate during a special national convention held on Saturday at the group’s secretariat in Area 10, Garki, Abuja.

Although the former president was absent from the event, his certificate of return was received on his behalf by Bayelsa lawmaker, Fred Agbedi.

The rumours gained further traction after a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nuhu Sada, claimed in a post on social media platform X that there were indications Mohammed could emerge as Jonathan’s running mate in 2027.

However, the Bauchi governor swiftly rejected the claim, insisting that his political focus remains on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Responding to the speculation via his X handle, Mohammed urged the public to disregard reports suggesting any alternative political agenda.

“Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM),” he stated.

“Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate. Thank you.”

In a separate statement, Kaura Independent Communication, a political support group associated with the governor, also dismissed the reports, describing them as false, misleading and politically motivated.

The group maintained that Mohammed remains committed to the APM and is actively working towards strengthening the party’s structure and ensuring its success in Bauchi State during the 2027 elections.

According to the statement, there is no arrangement whatsoever between the governor and former President Goodluck Jonathan regarding a presidential ticket, nor is there any plan for Mohammed to defect back to the PDP.

The group alleged that the reports were being circulated by political opponents seeking to create confusion among supporters and divert attention from the governor’s political objectives.

It therefore urged party members, supporters, stakeholders and media organisations to rely only on information released through Mohammed’s official communication channels.

Mohammed recently parted ways with the Peoples Democratic Party and joined the APM amid the prolonged internal crisis that has continued to affect the opposition party.

His latest clarification is expected to put to rest speculation surrounding his political future as discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum across the country.
