28 human skulls, bones found in Suspected kidnappers’ camps in Abia [VIDEO]

The Abia State Police Command has recovered 28 human skulls and other human bones during an intelligence-led operation on suspected criminal camps in forests around Isuochi and Nneato communities in Umunneochi Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, Maureen Chinaka, disclosed this in a statement on Monday following the operation conducted on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

According to Chinaka, the operation involved personnel from the Violent Crime Response Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Anti-Cultism Unit, Intelligence Response Unit, Rapid Response Squad and the Isuochi Police Headquarters.

She said the operatives raided suspected criminal camps in forests around Umuaku, Isuochi, and another camp in Nneato following intelligence reports.

“Upon arrival of the command tactical operatives at the camps, the suspects ran. The criminal camps were subsequently scattered,” Chinaka said.

The police spokesperson said the human remains were discovered during a search of the suspected kidnappers’ camps.

“A total of twenty-eight (28) human skulls and bones, which we suspect are kidnap victims, were recovered,” she said.

Chinaka said some of the remains were already decomposed, adding that the command suspected they could belong to persons who had been kidnapped and taken into the forest.

She stressed, however, that the identity of the victims and circumstances surrounding their deaths had not been established, as investigations were still ongoing.

No arrest has been made in connection with the discovery, as the suspects reportedly fled before the arrival of the police tactical teams.

The command said efforts were continuing to identify the remains, establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths and apprehend those responsible.
