The political race for the Sabon Gari Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat has taken a new turn following the voluntary withdrawal of 30-year-old All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant, Mahmud Sadis Buba.
Buba, one of the youngest and most prominent contenders in the APC primary contest, announced his decision during a press briefing in Kaduna, saying it was aimed at preserving party unity ahead of the upcoming elections.
Addressing supporters and party stakeholders, Buba said his decision followed wide consultations with political leaders, youth groups, and community representatives within the constituency.
He stressed that maintaining cohesion within the party was more important than individual political ambition, especially at a critical moment in the electoral cycle.
“Our campaign was driven by a vision of representation and youth inclusion,” Buba said. “However, leadership also requires sacrifice. To ensure unity within the APC in Sabon Gari, I have decided to withdraw my aspiration.”
Buba’s candidacy had attracted strong support from young voters, many of whom saw him as part of a growing wave of youth participation encouraged by the “Not Too Young To Run” framework.
Sabon Gari Federal Constituency, one of the most politically active areas in Kaduna State, has remained a competitive battleground in recent election cycles, with aspirants focusing heavily on grassroots mobilisation, education, and empowerment issues.
Despite stepping down from the race, Buba urged his supporters to remain active within the party structure and to rally behind the eventual consensus candidate to be chosen by the APC leadership.
He also confirmed that the political network built during his campaign would remain intact and be redirected toward supporting the party’s broader electoral success.
Party officials in Kaduna State have reportedly commended his decision, describing it as a demonstration of political maturity and loyalty to party interests.
