Mark, Amaechi, Others Arrive Kano Ahead of Kwankwaso’s Defection to ADC

African Democratic Congress (ADC) high‑powered delegation arrived in Kano State on Monday ahead of the anticipated defection of former Kano State Governor and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to the party.

The delegation, which touched down at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, includes prominent political figures such as ADC National Chairman and former Senate President David Mark; former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal; former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi; Senator Dino Melaye; and former APC National Chairman Chief John Odigie‑Oyegun, among others.

They were received by the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, who is also expected to join Kwankwaso in the move to the ADC.

Kwankwaso is set to defect alongside several influential figures, including the Senator representing Kano Central, Rufa’i Hanga, and the Kano State Chairman of the NNPP, Hashim Dungurawa. The development follows Kwankwaso’s resignation from the NNPP on Sunday.

In his resignation statement, the former governor said the decision was driven by the need for strategic political repositioning.

“I wish to formally announce my resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party with immediate effect,” he said, describing the move as a difficult but necessary step.

Says Nigeria’s Political Climate Requires ‘Strategic Realignment’

Kwankwaso, who served as the NNPP’s National Leader and 2023 presidential flagbearer, said the evolving political environment required him to align with a platform better suited to driving national change.

“Considering the current trajectory of the nation’s political landscape, which calls for strategic realignment, I have found it necessary to identify with another political platform that offers the best opportunity to change the nation effectively,” he stated.

He expressed gratitude to the NNPP leadership, including National Chairman Ajuji Ahmed, the National Working Committee, the Board of Trustees, and the National Executive Committee for their support.

Kwankwaso also thanked members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and supporters across the country for their loyalty and commitment.

“We shall continue to collaborate and work together towards charting a better and more prosperous future for our dear nation,” he added.
