Javier Mascherano has resigned as head coach of Inter Miami CF, citing personal reasons, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

The Argentine manager stepped down with immediate effect, bringing an abrupt end to a successful tenure that saw him guide the Major League Soccer side to its first-ever MLS Cup title.

Mascherano, who took charge in November 2024, led Inter Miami through a historic 2025 season, securing both the MLS Cup and the Eastern Conference title. Under his leadership, the club recorded one of the most dominant campaigns in league history.

In a statement released by the club, the former Argentina international expressed gratitude to the organization, players, and supporters.

“I want to let everyone know that, for personal reasons, I have decided to end my tenure as head coach of Inter Miami CF,” Mascherano said.

His departure comes just months after the club’s landmark title win and early into the 2026 MLS season, where Inter Miami has had a mixed run of results.

The club has appointed an interim manager while it begins the search for a permanent replacement.

Mascherano’s exit marks a significant moment for the team, which has attracted global attention in recent years following the arrival of Lionel Messi and other high-profile players.
