APC chairman Yilwatda begins two-week overseas vacation after first year in office

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has commenced a two-week vacation outside Nigeria following an intensive first year in office.

The development was disclosed in a statement signed by Abimbola Tooki, Special Adviser to the National Chairman on Media and Information Strategy.

According to the statement, the vacation is intended to provide Yilwatda with an opportunity to rest and rejuvenate after months of extensive party engagements, consultations, travels and strategic activities.

Since assuming the leadership of the ruling party, Yilwatda has focused on strengthening the APC’s internal structures and improving its electoral readiness ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The statement said the chairman has worked closely with the National Working Committee (NWC), state governors, members of the National Assembly, state party structures, elected officials and other stakeholders across the country.

It added that the party under his leadership organised and concluded its National Convention and conducted primary elections at various levels as part of preparations for the 2027 elections.

The APC described the developments as part of efforts to consolidate its position as Nigeria’s ruling party and a major political organisation on the African continentThe statement stressed that Yilwatda’s vacation should not be interpreted as a withdrawal from party affairs, noting that the break would enable him to reflect on the party’s progress and strategise for the challenges ahead.

It said the APC chairman would also use the period to further develop plans for the forthcoming NWC retreat, where members are expected to review the party’s activities, identify emerging challenges and map out strategies for the months leading to the 2027 elections.

The retreat is expected to focus on improving coordination within the NWC and strengthening the party’s preparedness for the upcoming electoral cycle.

According to the statement, Yilwatda’s decision to take a break followed a sustained period of demanding political engagements and was considered necessary for reflection and renewal.

The APC assured members that the chairman’s temporary absence from Nigeria would not affect the functioning of the party, as the NWC would continue to discharge its responsibilities in line with the party’s constitution and established procedures.

Yilwatda is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the two-week vacation and resume his official engagements with renewed focus.
