Breaking: Ogun Police flood Sagamu–Benin highway with tactical operatives
The Ogun State Police Command has intensified security operations along the Sagamu–Benin Expressway following a reported security incident around the J4 axis of the highway, assuring motorists and residents that the situation is under control.
The command said it has deployed a large number of tactical personnel, including operatives of the Police Mobile Force (PMF), the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other specialized teams, to restore confidence and prevent further criminal activities along the busy corridor.
The Sagamu–Benin Expressway is one of Nigeria’s busiest highways, linking the South-West with the South-South and South-East regions.
In recent years, parts of the road have witnessed sporadic incidents of armed robbery and kidnapping, prompting repeated calls for increased security presence to safeguard commuters and businesses that rely on the route.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command disclosed that the deployment followed a distress report received after the security incident around the J4 area on Thursday, June 25, 2026.
According to the statement, police operatives responded immediately upon receiving the alert and activated a coordinated security response to prevent the suspects from escaping and to secure the area.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, directed the immediate deployment of four units of the Police Mobile Force alongside operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical formations to reinforce security on the highway.
The police said an intensive bush-combing operation is currently underway, with security operatives combing surrounding forests and difficult terrains in an effort to track down the fleeing suspects.
“The deployed operatives are making significant operational progress in tracking the fleeing suspects, dominating the area and ensuring the safety of commuters and inhabitants of the corridor,” the statement said.
The command emphasized that security personnel have established a strong operational presence in the affected area to deter criminal elements and reassure road users.
It urged members of the public to remain calm and continue their lawful activities, stressing that there is no cause for panic as adequate measures have been put in place to guarantee public safety.
The police also appealed to residents, motorists and other road users to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest security agency, noting that timely information from members of the public remains crucial to ongoing security operations.
The Ogun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, adding that efforts to apprehend those behind the incident would continue until all the suspects are brought to justice.
